My Story

The first book I remember writing was when I was seven years old. I’ve always had a very active imagination, so it’s no surprise at all I began using writing as an outlet. When I was around twelve or thirteen, I began writing novels and sharing them with a writing friend of mine. This started an over decade long desire to finish an entire scifi adventure novel.

I've had many over the years. Most of them only made it until chapter ten or eleven, and then I would fizzle out, and abandon the project. Honestly, I thought that would happen to this story too.

In addition, I ran into some health issues and had given up on ever becoming an author. One day (well, more like one week), I listened to a four part series that heavily inspired me. I couldn't stop thinking about the writing style, the stories, and the characters that this author had managed to create and I realized I had characters that developed in my mind as well and their story needed to be told! So I fought to become a writer again. The more I worked on it, and got more comfortable being a part of the author community, I began to realize that I did have something here- enough to fill a trilogy!

When I began working on ‘The Barrier Between Us’, it started out as a collection of short stories that I was writing for a friend based on different prompts she would send me. Almost all of my characters are based (and recycled) from dozens of my previous characters from abandoned stories. Of course since then, they have gotten a mind of their own and taken over! I wanted to show that if people can look past our differences, then our similarities and ability to work together becomes clear. All while surviving a dystopian world, of course!

I never thought I would make it to the publishing of my debut novel, but it’s here now and I’m ready to share it with you! Thanks for stopping by.

The Story Behind Authorjanandmoose

Don't worry, you aren't the first, or the last to wonder this.

I was so nervous to share my work with others. I very rarely showed anyone my writing projects. But as I got further with my trilogy, I wanted to pursue publishing it and part of that was having an online presence. I was still scared though. So at first, I hid behind my cat.

Moose is the very first cat I ever had, and my son. He was already an old boy when I adopted him, and I love him. Almost every time I would sit down to write, he's there. A lot of the time pushing the laptop off my lap. He and I made the very first reels about my story on Instagram back then. I wanted something to immortalize him, which is why I made him a part of my username.

Since then, three more young kittens have been added to the family and they all add to the adventure of writing in their own ways. Modelo is the calm one, that enjoys warming my feet while I type. Dixie is the crazy one. Like absolutely psycho. He has knocked books, my laptop, pens, etc out of my hands so he can get attention. But he is sure cute, and likes to make videos. Nowadays, most of the time if a cat is in my posts, it's Dixie. And then there is little Linus. The cat distribution system dropped you off at my door unexpectantly one day, but now I can't imagine not having you around. In fact, you are rolling around on my key board as I write this and I'm having to keep backspacing all your 'work'.

In short; my user name is made up of what I love, writing, and my cats.
